World Hearing Day Celebration
“Free Hearing Screening Camp” at rural health training centre, Thiruvennainallur on 28.02.2020 As a part of celebration of World Hearing day, ENT department conducted a “free hearing screening camp” at Rural Health Training Centre, Thiruvennainallur on 28.02.2020 from 10 am to l pm. More than 75 patients attended the screening camp and were evaluated for ear diseases and hearing.
“World Hearing Day” (01.03.2021 to 03.03.2021)
- On the evet of world hearing day March3rd 2021, various community oriented programmes were organized by the Dept. of ENT and Head & Neck surgery, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College & Hospital.
- On March 1st 2021, Free hearing screening camp was organized at Rural Health and Training Center, Thiruvennainallur and hearing screening and counselling was offered for rural patients.
- On March 2nd 2021, free hearing screening and special hearing investigations like Pure Tone audiometry were done for the public, drivers and people in high risk group like diabetics and aged above 55 years at ENT OPD and more than 300 people were benefitted.
- On March 3rd Shri. M. Dhanasekaran, Chairman & MD of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Education Trust, inaugurated the Vertigo clinic and delivered the presidential address in the august presence of Dr. D. Rajagovindan, Director, Dr. RN Kagne, Deputy Director, Dr. K. Karthikeyan, Dean Academic, Dr. M. Pragash, Medical superintendent, Dr. S. Girija & Dr. M. Jayashree, Deputy Medical Superintendents, Mr. T. Dhatchinamurthy, Registrar. In his address he highlighted that facilities like Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential (VEMP), Electronystagmogram (ENG), Brain Stem Evoked Response (BERA) are available under one roof for first time in private Medical College in Puducherry and requested the public to make use of Vertigo Clinic.
- He also stressed the need for early detection of hard of hearing among children and early intervention to prevent incapacitating deafness which will lead to impediment of educational career and social well being of young generation. He also recalled that for every new born child in SMVMCH, Oto acoustic emission has been done as a screening procedure to detect congenital deafness and if needed BERA is also done as a confirmatory test. And soon, he hoped that the institution will be capable of doing cochlear implants and rehabilitate the affected children.
- Welcome address was given by Professor Dr. Mariappan Rajagopal, HOD, Department of ENT & Head and Neck Surgery. Prizes for undergraduate students participated and excelled in the quiz programme arranged in the eve of World Hearing day, were distributed by Dr. D. Rajagovindan Director and Dr. R.N. Kagne Deputy Director. Vote of thanks was offered by Dr. K. Santhanakrishnan , Associate Professor, Dept. of ENT & Head and Neck surgery.
- In the afternoon webinar on congenital hearing loss and its management was delivered by Professor Dr. F. Antony Irudhayarajan, M.S., DLO highlighting the cochlear implant surgery. He congratulated the institution and department of ENT & HNS for taking step in right direction towards WHO’s objective of “Hearing care for all”
World Voice Day- April 16, 2021 celebrations
As a part of 15th Year celebrations of our institution, we celebrated World Voice Day- 2021 (April 16) with an “ Online Voice Celebration Event for Kids” . It was organized for children less than 12 years, keeping in mind the present situation of pandemic and to nurture singing talent among children and to create awareness about the voice care among general public.
A Social Media page (Facebook Page) was created and a short singing video of kids was invited, to be posted on the page from April 1st- April 15th 2021.
- 122 kids actively participated in this event ranging from 2.4 yrs to 12 years of age Participations from various parts of India like Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Pondicherry, Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhyapradesh, Andhrapradesh, Himachal Pradesh etc and also from various parts of the world like USA, UK, Switzerland and Australia.
- An overwhelming moment for us to receive a singing participation from a special child suffering from Down’s Syndrome from Madhyapradesh.
- A child playback singer and winner of various Pan-India singing reality shows, Baby. Prakruthi Reddy, from Karnataka also extended her support to our event by sending one of her most popular singing
- The posts on the page has reached more than 28,000 people and the event page received 311 likes, and 334 followers over a period of 15 day
- Feedbacks were obtained from the parents of the participa E-Certificates were issued to all the participants.
